A first look at music videos

What I would expect to see
  • The band playing
  • Special effects
  • The other part of the story (what the song is saying) - Narrative
  • Attractive people - (fe)male gaze
  • Lip syncing
  • Dancing
  • Costume
  • Romance
  • Age / age of performers
  • Numerous locations
  • Variety of shots and shot length (pace)
Goodwins 3 types of music video
- Narrative: where the ideas included in the video are reflective on what the lyrics are telling us e.g. Bad
   Romance by Lady Gaga
- Performance: where the video is primarily showing the artist(s) performing e.g. Believe In A Thing Called
  Love by The Darkness
- Concept: e.g Kate Bush The Whole Story

*F.A.G = Format. Audience. Genre
*Direct address - eye contact through the camera
*Fish eye lense - common feature of software (rappers)

1. Narrative- This is when a story is told, a story that links in with the lyrics, for example Bad Romance links with it's video as she is showing how her boyfriend bought her.
